Freezing weather. If you plan to leave your home for an extended period of time, especially during seasons of freezing weather, you should consider shutting your water off at the water meter or well, plus:
· Open up all faucets
· Flush all toilets
You may even want to drain your water heater and pour R.V. antifreeze into your sink traps and toilets. Then, if your furnace breaks down while you’re gone, your plumbing water lines and traps won’t freeze and break and you won’t need to worry about a flood.
There is an old saying in the plumbing industry: If you’re a plumber, you only need to remember three things. 1). water goes downhill 2). Pay day is on Friday and 3). Don’t bite your finger nails.
